Overview / Responsibilities

The Finance Project Manager reporting line is to the Senior Finance Manager of Wood Power Solutions. The FPM is expected to provide analysis and insight in respect of the financial performance of the projects and the wider business, be a trusted advisor and add value to the process of decision making.

This role can be based at your home but there is a requirement to travel to the Stockton and Darlington offices.

The main role aspects require the ability to:

work closely with the wider Finance/Commercial Teams to investigate, analyse, interpret, and report upon any aspects that impact on project accounting positions,

deliver an effective control environment with compliance to all relevant Group control frameworks, policies, and procedures,

use/build flexible tools to analyse and reliably forecast project P&L and cash performance,

provide timely, accurate, and complete monthly reports on project accounting positions,

Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Cash Management & Collection

producing weekly cash management reports,

producing monthly assessments of project unbilled value and working with project teams to agree action plans to expedite recovery from clients,

ensure commercial and billing teams prepare timely invoices in accordance with the commercial terms of the contract,

working with all project and business management teams to minimise DSO performance,

Accurate Project Costings

calculating weekly “blue collar” cost rates, and monthly reviews of the control account,

reviewing/advising commercial teams on the production of accurate monthly cost accruals and project accounting entries in line with corporate deadlines,

investigating monthly project cost performance,

Month End Reporting

coordinating relevant inputs so as ensure adherence to system timetable,

producing timely financial performance reports that include variance analysis, accounts receivables, DSO, and unbilled analysis,

presenting results and performance to the business management team,

ELF Reviews & Assurance

working with the project teams to both challenge and respond to business management team’s challenges in the review of project End Life Forecasts,

assisting project commercial teams in dealing with dispute management,

ensuring that all Group requirements are adhered to, and that any financial risks are understood, mitigated, and reported as appropriate,

compliance with Financial Management Framework within the individual’s sphere of control,

liaising with external, internal and client auditors

consolidating End Life Forecast information into rolling and annual forecasts,

various ad hoc financial analysis and tasks as and when required

In addition, this role has responsibility:

Responsible for driving sustainable working capital improvements working with operational management, project managers, supply chain and other relevant areas to optimise cash collection and minimise DSO, including customer relationships and reporting

Engagement with commercial teams on the pre award phase in terms of bids, rates, and relevant analysis and a key contact and team participant for such, including input to financial terms contained in contracts and bids where appropriate

Engagement with commercial teams on post contract award phase in terms of margin analysis looking for opportunities to drive improvements and commercial efficiencies; review, challenge and gain approval of End Life Forecasts and attending key project reviews to ensure that reported financials are appropriate.

Responsibility for relevant project accounting, including monthly reviews, analysis and project set up, accounting judgements and provisioning while working with relevant functions such as Commercial, Legal and Tax

Work with Operations and serve as a conduit between the business and Legal, Tax and Treasury

Skills / Qualifications

Qualified accountant ACCA/CIMA/ACA

Knowledge, skills and experience:

Relevant accounting / commercial experience

Experience of business partnering

Commercial experience with good understanding of Fixed Budget Contracting

Good IT / Systems knowledge – working knowledge of Oracle accounting systems would be an advantage
