Level 3 Section planning apprenticeship – UM for Network Rail – Darlington

UM for Network Rail

*Your Career Matters…*

If finding a unique opportunity to understand different aspects of Commercial Procurement & Supply and how they interact with wider business matters to you. You matter to us.

Our Level 4 Commercial & Procurement Supply apprenticeship is designed to offer generous study support and opportunity to complete your qualification along with plenty of chances to apply your learning in the workplace.

You’ll be mentored and guided by Senior Commercial and Procurement leaders, who will empower you to grow and develop. Working independently, you’ll learn how to excel in high pressured environments. And, as we’re big believers in agile and flexible working and promoters of a diverse and inclusive culture, we’ll encourage you to bring your whole self to work every day.

Your starting salary will be competetive and the scheme lasts for two years. We are recruiting for apprentices on this scheme in London Stratford, Manchester and York. The duration of the scheme is 2 years with opportunities for rotations around the region at certain points.

*Who you are matters*

We are looking for people who have a strong commitment and are self-motivated to develop and learn. We want people with an economic focus who want to achieve value for money as well as maximising quality in all activities. You will also identify approaches to achieve agreements with external and internal organisations and stakeholders, including developing the communication skills that can influence positive negotiated outcomes.

We invest in you and give you vast exposure to different areas and aspects of Commercial Procurement, because we believe you will be the future of our business. In return, we respect apprentices who are driven, hardworking and uphold Network Rail’s values and behaviours.

*What you’ll be doing*

The work of procurement and supply professionals includes the process of procurement, or buying goods and services; however, these roles can be much broader than just procurement. These roles can extend to a huge range of related commercial activity such as influencing policy, financial analysis, engaging in contract law, and developing strategy to deliver services. The variety of goods and services that procurement professionals are responsible for is vast: goods could range from buying a plane to negotiating new stationery supply. Securing services could include: finding new and innovative IT systems, outsourcing translation services or closing a deal on a construction project for a new building.

This apprenticeship scheme will encompass the entire procurement cycle and, in combination with on the job learning at Network Rail, give you a great knowledge of Procurement & Supply. Achieving the Level 4 in Procurement and Supply will enable an individual to use their breadth and depth of experience to position themselves as a fully effective commercially skilled professional with transferable skills and career options that span the public, private and charitable sectors. This will be supported by the attainment of a Level 4 Diploma with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).

You will undertake a planned rotation within appropriate departments in order to gain the skills and competencies to complete the Standard requirements. In addition, you will attend part-time education to achieve the Knowledge, Behaviours and Competencies as required by the apprenticeship. You will also undertake internal training to upskill you in the relevant skills and competencies required for Network Rail.

*What you’ll get out of it*

You will achieve the L4 Diploma in Procurement & Supply with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS). Completion of CIPS L4 gains eligibility for equivalent membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS). CIPS L4 is a pre- requisite for MCIPS (L6) and the full professional licence and offers the potential for Chartered status.

*The opportunities it leads to*

This is an outstanding scheme that gives you a thorough understanding of Commercial Procurement and Supply. A natural progression upon completion of the scheme would be to move into either a Buyer or Assistant Procurement Manager position within Network Rail. These roles come with a competitive salary depending on experience. Progression from here would then be to a Senior Buyer role. From there, we also have Senior Procurement Manager positions and Programme Procurement Manager positions. These come with competitive salaries and Network Rail offers a wide range of careers and some skills you acquire from the apprenticeship will be transferrable to other disciplines and professions – we will aim to aid your career development throughout your time with us.
