Job Summary The Manufacturing Engineer will provide support for the Engine Assembly and Test processes.You will lead and coach Graduate Mfg. Engineers and Mfg. Technicians that support all areas of the Darlington Campus assembly line. You will be responsible for key Business projects that support improvement activities on Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery. The Manufacturing Engineer will report directly to Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Experience Proven experience working in a similar role in an Assembly related Manufacturing environment. Experience of diesel engine assembly preferred but not essential. Industrial Engineering (IE) skills preferred but not essential. Knowledge of Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing tools preferred but not essential. Attention to detail, good communication and problem-solving skills essential. Computer literacy including Microsoft package (Word, PowerPoint & Excel etc). Knowledge of Manufacturing processes. Ability to work alone and as part of a team. Communication skills is key as part of multi-functional Department meetings and reviews. Use own initiative is essential to ensure the correct Business decisions are made. Ability to multi-task and lead multiple projects. Actively seeking new ways to grow your skillset and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels.Key Responsibilities Ensure a safe working environment for all areas of the Assembly Process. Provide Manufacturing skills and technical solutions for all areas of the Engine Assembly Processes. Lead Process (P) FMEA’s and develop to ensure a robust Assembly Process to minimize assembly defects. Assist in Capital equipment requirements and project support Capital equipment introduction. Develop/redesign workstation layouts to improve efficiency and accommodate new tooling and products. Develop Work Instructions (WI) and Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) for new processes within the Assembly Process. Review and action Engineering Releases for all areas of the Assembly Process. Coach/Lead Mfg. Graduate Engineers and Mfg. Technicians workload, inc. holidays and shift patterns. Ensure Dept Skills Matrix is updated, and key skills gaps are identified and actioned. Support Industrial Engineering (IE) activities in line balancing and workstation takt time to ensure a capable process for daily/hourly build rates. Lead Manufacturing Change Request (MCR) projects for Safety and Quality improvement work and complete associated Corrective Action Requests (CAR). Manage the Manufacturing Engineering controllable expensed budgets with respect to tooling, fixture and project related expense.Education, Licenses, Certifications/Qualifications Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Systems / Controls Engineering.Good overall knowledge of the Automotive or Manufacturing industry or relevant experience within this field.
